Starting Service FAQs

  • How do I start services with Gareda?

    To start services with Gareda, a client must first go through the assessment process by the payor (e.g. Illinois Department on Aging; Veterans Affairs, etc.) Once complete, the client can then choose Gareda as it's Home Care provider. To get started, simply contact Gareda directly and a member of our care team will be happy to explain the process in detail and guide you through the process.   • How do I know if I or a loved one qualifies for services?

    Since each payment source has different eligibility requirements, it's difficult to determine one's eligibility without actually applying. Therefore, we encourage everyone to apply for services, To help determine the payment source that may best serve you, contact Gareda and we will be glad to help you make a determination.

  • Can I choose a family member as my Home Care Aide?

    In general, yes! As long as the family member or friend is not legally responsible for the client (e.g. power of attorney or legal guardian), he/she is eligible to apply for employment with Gareda as your Home Care Aide. As with all of Gareda's Home Care Aides, we strive to hire the best. Therefore, although your family member or friend is your first choice, he/she must still initiate an application, successfully complete Gareda's hiring process and meet ongoing employment requirements.
  • Are Home Care Aides trained?

    Yes! Every HCA receives a minimum of 24 hours of instructional training and must pass a comprehensive examination before they can service our clients. Each HCA undergoes continuing education by completing 12 additional hours of training annually. The goal of our training is to ensure that each HCA is equipped with the knowledge to provide the highest quality service to our clients.
  • I don't think that my Home Care Aide is right for me, what can I do?

    Before any placement we aim to create the best match between the Home Care Aide and the client, however we understand that not everyone works well together. If you or your family member is unhappy with your services, for any reason, please call our care team and we will assist you. If a change is needed we are happy to accommodate you because it is important to us that you are completely satisfied with your service.
  • How soon can I start services with Gareda?

    Generally, Gareda cannot start services until the client has been assessed and we receive an authorization from the referral source. As soon as Gareda receives an authorization we will be ready to begin caring for you or your loved one. The length of time it takes for Gareda to receive an authorization varies greatly depending on the referral source preforming the assessment. Therefore, we encourage you to contact our care team as quickly as possible so that we can help you get the process started.
  • Do you conduct criminal background checks?

    Yes. Every applicant that passes the interview process is required to be fingerprinted and must pass a criminal background check. Under no circumstances do we allow the home care aide to work until their background check is returned and accepted.
